VOLUNTEER SERVICES PAGE

AidsCare relies on the generosity and commitment of caring individuals to donate their time to help us achieve our mission. Our Volunteer Program is designed to provide volunteers with a variety of opportunities, while allowing for a flexible schedule. Each year our volunteer corps contributes over 14,000 hours of service. Whether its hourly, weekly or monthly, any amount of time can make a difference!

Time Commitment Options

Regular - those able to commit to a consistent day and time each week

Monthly - those able to provide two or three variable afternoons or evenings each month

Special - those with special skills or interests willing to commit time for special projects

or on an as needed basis

Events - those willing to help during one of our special events or street fairs

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Submit a completed Volunteer Application
  • Interview with a member of the Volunteer Team
  • Attend New Volunteer Orientation
  • Attend four information trainings including:
  • HIV 101
  • Communication Training
  • Cultural Competency
  • Addiction & Recovery

Volunteer Opportunities

RESIDENCE ASSISTANCE

  1. Companion ? spend quality time with residents and clients to provide emotional and general support. Companions have to serve at least three months in other ""Residence" duties and must attend monthly Companion Team meetings. Qualifications: interactive, non-judgmental, good listening and communication skills, sense of humor, sensitivity and must be comfortable interacting with people living with HIV/AIDS.
  2. Gardening (seasonal) ? help plant and maintain ornamental and vegetable gardens. Qualifications: must like working outdoors, previous gardening skills helpful, but not required.
  3. Kitchen ? assist with serving meals, after meals clean up and kitchen and dining room maintenance. Qualifications: no special skills required.
  4. Chef?s Aide ? Assist the Coordinator of Food Services to plan and prepare quality and nutritious meals for residents, staff and guests. Qualifications: completion of State course in ------ Handling and Sanitation. aidsCare can arrange for interested volunteers to sign up for the course.
  5. Reception ? answer the phones, greet and sign- in visitors, monitor gates and doors, and other projects as assigned. Qualifications: professionalism, outgoing personality, comfortable with using a multi-line phone system.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Technical Support ? help with data management and maintenance including -----
  2. and modification of data bases, website maintenance and other projects.

    Qualifications: familiarity with PC Windows software applications and ability to trouble shoot relevant problems.

  3. Office Support ? answer phones, greet visitors, light clerical duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications: some office experience, a sense of humor
  4. and willingness to learn and pitch in.

  5. Volunteer Program Support ? help with intake, training and integration of new

volunteers. Qualifications: exceptional organizational and communication skills.

4. Volunteer Development Team ? assist the Volunteer Management staff to

provide? and training of volunteers. Oversee new volunteer ---- and integration,

and facilitate new volunteer trainings. Qualifications: exceptional people skills,

education and/or experience in psychology and/or human resources, familiarity

with the nature, politics?.of the organization.

FUNDRAISING

  1. Development Support ? assist the Director of Development in identifying,
  2. researching and cultivating prospective individual, corporate and foundation

    funders. Create and maintain prospect files and information packets.

    Acknowledge donations and some database entry. Qualifications: thorough

    research skills, strong attention to details, basic knowledge of PC Windows

    software applications, inter-net savvy and familiarity with ACCESS program a

    plus.

  3. Creative Services Support ? assist with graphic design, writing, editing and
  4. marketing. Work independently on a per project basis. Projects include

    designing event invitations, newsletters and website, updating brochures,

    creating and implementing a marketing/PR plan and follow up calls to the

    media. Qualifications: creativity, ability to work within deadlines and meet on

    an as needed basis with Coordinator of Special Events & Marketing for status

    updates.

  5. Special Events Support ? serve on a planning committee and/or help the day of

the event with registration, set-up/decorations, meet and greet etc. Qualifications: outgoing personality, creativity, and availability during evenings and weekends.

COMMUNITY WELLNESS CENTER

  1. Volunteer Practitioner ? provide direct care of complimentary health services
  2. including chiropractic care, message therapy, acupuncture, yoga, and heal touch.

    Qualifications: must provide proof of professional credentials and interview with

    the Director of Wellness Center.

  3. Community Wellness Center Support ? assist with scheduling clients, new

client orientation, data management and community outreach. Qualifications:

basic administrative duties, knowledge/experience in alternative healthcare

services a plus.

INTERNSHIPS

aidsCare offers a variety of internship opportunities to students and individuals making transitions?. In most cases, the Director of each department will serve as the supervisor and will work closely with interns to provide meaningful and relevant learning to meet specific educational and personal requirements. Internships are available in the following areas:

    • Development (fundraising)
    • Creative Services
    • Residential Services (activities coordinator)
    • Special Events
    • Volunteer Management
    • Community Wellness Center
